How to Install the Magnetic Screen Pass-Thru
Run an extension cord or hose through your window or lanai screen in about 60 seconds — no mesh removed, fully reversible.
The Screen Pass-Thru lets you run an extension cord, AC or dehumidifier drain line, aquarium water-change hose, or garden hose through a window or lanai screen — without butchering the mesh and without leaving the window propped open for bugs. It clamps on magnetically and comes right off when you're done. Here's the whole install, start to finish.
What's in Your Kit
You'll handle two parts (the outer two pieces come pre-assembled):
- The plain frame — an open triangle with no door. This goes on the inside of the screen (the house side).
- The door unit — a frame with the hinged flap attached. This goes on the outside.
Each part has 3 neodymium magnets at the corners. When you assemble it, the 3 magnets on the inside frame line up with the 3 on the door unit and clamp the screen between them. The hinged door snaps shut magnetically on its own.
What You'll Need
- A fresh razor blade or utility knife — that's the only tool.
Where to Install It
Mount it in a lower-left or lower-right corner of your screen. Down low, gravity pulls the cord or hose straight down with no strain on the mesh — that's the number-one thing that stretches or tears a screen. Upper corners work for a hanging holiday-light cord, but support the weight separately so nothing pulls on the screen.
Install in 5 Steps
- Pick your corner. Lower-left or lower-right. Pop the screen out of its frame or just work in place — both are fine.
- Position the inside frame. From inside the house, hold the plain frame (the one with no door) flat against the screen where you want the pass-thru.
- Snap on the outside door unit. From outside, place the door unit over it. The magnets pull through the mesh and lock all three magnets to three, clamping the screen tight between the two frames.
- Cut the screen. Cut from each of the triangle's three points inward to the center — three slits, no mesh removed. The flaps stay in place: they part when you push a cord or hose through and spring back to seal around it, then close right up again when you pull it out.
- Pass your cord or hose. Lift the door on the outside, feed your cord or hose through, and let it snap shut around it.
Taking It Off Later
The pass-thru itself pulls right off — just separate the magnets, no residue. The only marks left behind are the three small slits (no mesh is ever removed) — they tuck away in the corner, and a dab of screen repair tape seals them completely if you ever want the screen back to like-new.
What Are You Running Through It?
The pass-thru's whole job is getting a cord or hose from inside to outside — and the one thing people are usually missing is a line long enough to make the run. A few that fit right through:
- 🐠 Aquarium water changes — a long aquarium water-change hose / gravel vacuum to drain and refill straight out the window.
- ❄️ Portable AC or dehumidifier — a drain hose / tubing long enough to reach outside.
- 🔌 Power to the porch or patio — an outdoor extension cord.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I ever need to glue the magnets?
Nope — the magnets are press-fit and hold firmly on their own. In the rare case one ever works loose, a dab of super glue and a firm press seats it permanently. That's the only maintenance this'll ever need.
Will it fit my screen?
Yes — it works on any standard window, sliding-door, lanai, or pool cage screen mesh. The magnets clamp through the mesh, so there's nothing to measure or size.
Will it damage my screen?
Only minimally — and it's repairable. Installing it means three small slits cut from the corners of the opening to the center; no mesh is cut out or removed. When you take the pass-thru off, the slits tuck away in the corner, and a dab of screen repair tape seals them completely if you ever want the screen back to like-new.
